According to the American Board of Neurological Surgery: Neurological surgery constitutes a medical discipline and surgical specialty that provides care for adult and pediatric patients in the treatment of pain or pathological processes that may modify the function or activity of the central nervous system (e.g. brain, hypophysis, and spinal cord), the peripheral nervous system (e.g. cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerves), the autonomic nervous system, the supporting structures of these systems (e.g. meninges, skull & skull base, and vertebral column), and their vascular supply (e.g. intracranial, extracranial, and spinal vasculature).
Treatment encompasses both non-operative management (e.g. prevention, diagnosis – including image interpretation – and treatments such as, but not limited to. neurocritical intensive care and rehabilitation) and operative management with its associated image use and interpretation (e.g. endovascular surgery, functional and restorative surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and spinal fusion – including its instrumentation.

I was in an accident and needed back surgery. I had the same surgery two years ago but lived elsewhere. Backus Hospital recommended Dr. Hornyak. I did some research and scheduled a visit. I found him to be VERY direct and professional. I’m not the type of person that wants to hear anything but what is needed in a situation like this. I want someone that is knowledgeable and confident. The surgery was scheduled and preformed the next week. It’s been three weeks and I’m doing Great. Dr. Hornyak did what he said and I’m very pleased. His crew and the crew at Backus Hospital where extremely professional and pleasant throughout the whole experience!
I am very grateful for Dr. Hornyaks' patience, and his willingness to spend a grate deal of time with me.
Extremely detailed visit I appreciated the time that was spent in explaining the surgical procedure I will need.
My husband had a mobi-c disc replacement and the surgery was very successful with a small incision and he was up front and encouraging, he saw me right away, ahead of schedule and again during discharge. So glad my husband was in good hands!
Dr. Hornyak was great in explaining everything to me.
Discovering that my wife had a brain tumor was possibly the worst day of our lives. Dr. Hornyak was able to quickly diagnose the problem and explain what to expect with the type of surgery needed. Both my wife and I felt comforted with his explanation and personal consideration that he gave us. It was his skill as a surgeon which ultimately gave my wife back to me. We are home 4 days after the surgery and while we know that there are still challenges before us, she came through surgery without any loss of function. Our deepest appreciation.
Staff was great - They all worked together very nicely. Very personable, respectful. Staff in front office very courteous.
Very, very concerned about my well being. Took the time to listen and advise me. Highly recommend this doctor and facility.
